Do not buy these chocolate bars, cones and gummies after hospitalizations, FDA warns

The CDC, America’s Poison Centers, state and local agencies have joined the investigation. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning to consumers about Diamond Shruumz microdosing candies, which have sickened 12 people across eight states. The products, which are not a recall, were taken by people in Arizona, Indiana, Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri, Nevada, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. The FDA reported severe symptoms such as seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness), agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, and vomiting. The company's website stated that the products contain a "proprietary blend of nootropic and functional mushrooms" without any scheduled drugs.

The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers to stay away from microdosing candies that have sickened 12 people across eight states.

While this isn’t a recall, most of which are made by companies on their own, the FDA is saying don’t buy, don’t sell, don’t use Diamond Shruumz microdosing and macrodosing products.

Diamond Shruumz Microdosing Chocolate Bars, Infused Cones, Micro Dose and Macro Dose Gummies, the agency said, were taken by people who got sick — four in Arizona; two in Indiana; and one each in Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri, Nevada, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Ten of them were hospitalized.

“People who became ill after eating Diamond Shruumz-brand products reported a variety of severe symptoms including seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness), agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, nausea, and vomiting,” Tuesday’s FDA warning said.

The FDA said the CDC, America’s Poison Centers, state and local agencies have joined the investigation.

According to the company’s website, the products contain a”proprietary blend of nootropic and functional mushrooms” but “no presence of psilocybin, amanita or any scheduled drugs.”

Anyone who gets ill after taking any of the above products can call the FDA’s Poison Help Line, 800-222-1222.
