(FOX40.COM) — The reward for the return of a beloved horse statue that was stolen from a stable in Yolo County earlier this month has increased as the owner pleads for its return.

The statue was more than 10 ft. tall, weighed around 2,200 lbs., was erected in 2016 and served as an easy way for visitors to find the stable, which is located between Woodland and Davis.

“For kids who wanted to do lessons, or even friends who come out to see the horses, I’d let them know: ‘There’s the big ol’ statue in front of the facility. You can’t miss it,’” Willow Creek Horse Park’s business owner, Linda Saldana, said to FOX40.com.

Since last Saturday, Saldana said there’s a lot to miss. The base and broken parts, including a tail and two hooves, are all that’s left after someone stole the artwork.

“Animal control was out here with one of our ranch hands and our sheep had gone out onto the highway… as they were putting it away, that’s when they noticed the statue was missing,” Saldana said.

Saldana filed a police report on the day of the theft.

“They had come out here, and cut the fencing in order to get access to the statue and get it out that way,” Saldana said.

According to the Yolo County Sheriff’s office, judging by the distance of the wheels and the axel, the horse heist appeared to have involved at least one or two trucks, or a truck and a trailer.

“It looks like it was pulled right off of its base forcefully, as if it were tied to something,” Detective Matt Wirick said.

Because of the statue’s value of $50,000, the theft is considered a felony, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The statue is made out of bronze. That carries with it a value per pound on the recycling market,” Detective Wirick said.

For some in the Woodland community, the artwork may as well have been priceless.

Saldana said that people who regularly drive down the highway say they miss the statue.

Anyone with information about the theft can call the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office at 530-668-5280.
