Planning a summer getaway? California is home to one of the best small airports in the nation, according to Newsweek.
Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa was No. 4 on the publication’s list of the top 10 small airports in the United States, published in late April.
“While smaller airports may lack the bells and whistles of some of their larger counterparts, they often make up for it by providing easier travel experiences with less hassle and shorter lines,” Newsweek said. “Those are big wins in our book.”
Newsweek said its list highlights air travel hotspots known for “their ease of use and friendly service.”
“The voting is in and the people have spoken,” the Sonoma County airport said in a post on X touting its fourth-place finish. “What does that mean? That we’re awesome! But you already knew that: You lovely people are the ones who got us here!”
What makes Sonoma County airport one of the best in US?
Sonoma County’s airport was renamed in 2000 to honor longtime Sonoma County resident and “Peanuts” cartoonist Charles Schulz.
The airport offers nonstop flights to more than a dozen locations, including Dallas, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Seattle and Portland, Oregon.
Three airlines currently fly in and out of the Santa Rosa airport: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and Avelo Airlines.
Newsweek praised “some whimsical cartoon touches, such as Snoopy and Lucy statues, that help make travel a joy.”
