In partnership with UC San Diego's 'Alert California' program, Cal Fire is now using artificial intelligence technology to detect the start of a fire, before it grows out of control.

The agency is using over one-thousand cameras across the state that are equipped with artificial intelligence to spot fires at the start.

As fire season is approaching, this will be the first full summer that this technology will be in full force.

The goal is to get firefighters to respond to a fire quicker than ever before.

The new technology is a drastic difference from how fire fighters have been spotting wildfires for years, relying solely on lookout towers, and cameras that can not be viewed 24/7.

Cal Fire is hopeful that these advancements will help protect our communities and make California more resilient to wildfires.
