Boxes of Helados Mexico Mini Cream Variety Pack say the ice cream bars are made with “premium ice cream,” but 5,224 boxes have been recalled because some of that “premium ice cream” might be contaminated with salmonella.

The salmonella problem in the 12-count — four strawberry, four mango, four coconut — boxes was discovered in the mango-flavored bars by testing at Tropicale Foods’ Modesto, California, facility.

Tropicale, the FDA-posted recall notice says, “has ceased distribution” of the ice cream bars and “is conducting an investigation as to what caused the problem and will take effective action to prevent any future issue.”

Salmonella strikes around 1.35 million people in the United States each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hospitalizing over 26,500 and killing around 420. Most people experience vomiting, stomachaches and diarrhea, some of which can be bloody, for about four to seven days.
