Following the April 3 earthquake in Taiwan, several images captured the devastation it left in its wake.

From crumbled buildings to trapped miners, the videos and images tugged at heart strings all over the world. But one video in particular had parents praising a group of nurses in Taiwan.

The video was captured inside the Ma Cherie Maternity Centre in Taipei during the 7.4 magnitude quake. It showed a group of nurses working quickly to gather the newborns who were swaddled tightly in their bassinets.

The nurses dressed in pink scrubs looked panicked as they secured the dozen cribs in the center of the hospital room as quickly as possible. The nurses held on firmly as the building continued to shake.

The video, originally shared on Reuters’ X account and elsewhere on Instagram, garnered hundreds of comments from people praising the nurses for their selflessness.

“The women were stressed while the babies were happily being gently rocked. If that isn’t a picture of motherhood, I don’t know what is,” one person wrote.

“Real heroes,” another commenter added. “Nurses everywhere need to be paid more.”

According to NBC News, this earthquake was the biggest earthquake Taiwan has seen in 25 years.

In a statement shared with Reuters, “Of course we were scared, very scared, but I think this is the natural instinct of a maternity staff,” Chen Ting-Chin, the supervisor of Ma Cherie Maternity Centre said of that moment. “The safety of the babies is of utmost importance.”
