TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for child molestation, Tulare County’s District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
Officials said that on March 6, 25-year-old Luis Fernando Bernal pleaded no contest to one count of oral copulation with a child under 10 years of age or younger and one count of lewd act upon a child under the age of 14.
According to the DA, Bernal admitted the special allegation that his crimes involved substantial sexual conduct.
Officials say that the crimes occurred between Sept. 23, 2016, and June 14, 2017, against a female victim, who was between the ages of nine and 11 at the time of the sexual assaults.
According to the DA, each of the crimes occurred in the Porterville area. Additionally, Bernal will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. Bernal must serve 18 years before being considered for parole.
